iPhone the Conqueror

The iPhone is mightier than the pen, the sword, and a whole bunch of other things.

CNN has an article, "Things the iPhone killed", that I read today. But before I read it, I wrote down all the things that I thought they would mention. Just to see if I could.

I missed a few from the CNN list. But they missed even more from mine!

It's kind of mind-boggling when you think about how many things the iPhone, or smart phones in general, have replaced. Now, not all of them are completely gone, but the iPhone has taken huge chunks of the market away from all of them.
  • PDAs (personal digital assistant)
  • MP3 players
  • Paper maps
  • Personal GPS devices
  • Notebooks
  • Daily planners
  • Home landline phones
  • Pay phones
  • Pagers
  • Address books
  • Travel alarm clocks
  • Personal gaming devices
  • Watches
  • Point-and-shoot cameras
  • Photo albums
  • Voice recorders
  • Paper calendars
  • Pocket calculators
  • Portable DVD players
These are the ones I can think of. I'm sure there are a lot of others. And even more if you include things that were already being replaced by computers when the iPhone came along (e.g. paper books, paper magazines, etc.).

Pretty amazing for a product that's only been around for 10 years!
