The Problem with Flowers

As I've written before, I'm ambivalent about flower photography.

Flowers have been done to death. There are so many stunning flower photos in the world that it's seemingly impossible to not look derivative.

It's a reliable source of undeniably nice images. Isn't making nice images the entire point?

Well yes, but it can be almost too easy to get a nice photo of a flower. It's almost like it's lazy.

So f'ing what? Is a photo only valid if it's difficult? If it's so easy, then find the uncommon shot – you just admitted that that is difficult!

So yeah, very mixed feelings. Despite the internal debate, I do end up shooting flowers when the opportunity is there. And I enjoy it.

At the end of the day, nice pictures win out over meta concerns.
